CRIMINAL DEFENSE

My criminal defense practice is small compared to the number of injury cases I take. This is intentional so I can devote the amount of time to each file that it deserves.

Moreover, I am dedicated to protecting the constitutional rights of my clients and pursuing justice on their behalf.  I am passionate about educating my neighbors so that they may make informed decisions and exercise their rights confidently.

HELPFUL TIPS WHEN DEALING WITH THE POLICE

Always remember when interacting with the police, be polite even if the officer isn't.  And keep your hands out of your pockets and where the officer can see them.  If you need to get something out of your glove compartment or console, inform the officer of this action prior to doing it.  Avoid sudden hand movements. You know you're not going to hurt the officer, but he or she doesn't.  Do what you can to show that you are being cooperative, not going to make matters worse, and that, in fact, you are part of the solution.

IF THE POLICE PULL YOU OVER, OR KNOCK AT YOUR DOOR:

Yes the police can knock at your door and ask you questions. Usually they do this because someone has told them there is criminal activity going on at your home.  Remember you do not have to talk to the police. You can either ask them to leave or just not acknowledge them and don't answer your door.

If you do decide to speak to them, they will  probably at some point ask for your consent for them to enter your home.  Of course you should politely decline.  Sometimes the police keep asking you trying to get you to change your mind. They will tell you they're just going to go get a warrant anyway. That's when you say,  "Yes Sir, Officer. I'll see you when you come back with a warrant.  Until then, you do NOT have my consent to search my person or my residence."

Police Cars

whether arrested or detained, if you are put in a police car, most likely you are being audio & video recorded.

The police will put 2 suspects in the back of a police car together. The officers walk away from the police car in an attempt to get the 2 suspects talking to each other about the crime. Then the police listen to the recorded conversation listening for admissions of guilt or contradictions between the story you told the police an Don't fall victim to this trap and keep your trap shut.
